Fairly uneventful day and my room.

Today was a fairly uneventful day. I'm studying for a Japanese test this Friday so that I can take the intensive class. I’m pretty sure I can pass it but I’m still going to study really hard to make sure I can do it.

Tomorrow I’m going to apply for my alien identification card. It will allow me to walk around without my passport. Bringing around my passport is kind of troublesome because it’s worth a lot on the black market and if it gets stolen more than once they will probably investigate me for fraud. But that’s only if it gets stolen more than once, and I doubt there much of a chance that my pockets will be picked in Japan. Japan is a really safe place.

I’ll tell you a little about my host family’s house and neighborhood. The house is pretty small by American standards. In the toilet rooms there is about 9 inches from the wall to the seat (maybe a little more or a little less). I have trouble fitting into the toilet room. The bathroom is a Japanese style bathroom. (When I say bathroom, I mean with no toilet). In a Japanese style bathroom you wash yourself before you get into the bath, and the bath water is left in the tub and is just kept heated with a heater. I haven’t used the actual bath tub. I just shower off with the faucet. The shower head is low to the floor and is connected with a hose so you can move it around easily. However, a person has to squat or sit to use it… Or at least I do. My room is a fairly nice size. There are three train tracks right outside my balcony, but it’s not really that noisy. I don’t have any trouble getting to sleep.

The neighborhood is nice. There is a part of the neighborhood right around the station that is really neat with a lot of shops. Today me and my host parents walked around this area some and got a chocolate cake and some Baskin Robins. Baskin Robins is called 31 here. I have no idea why. I’ll eat some of the chocolate cake tomorrow morning. I can’t wait.

See, I made up for the really long blog yesterday with a really short one today. I hope ya’ll are enjoying reading these blogs as much as I enjoy writing them.

Baskin Robins is called 31 because they have 31 flavors of ice cream

the shower/bathroom situation sounds crazy. I wouldn't have expected that.
