Creepy stocker guy and getting used to Japan.

Today I saw something really creepy. I was riding on the train home from school and there was this fairly big Japanese guy sitting down fairly close to me. I was standing because there was not enough seats. Anyways this guy has this kind of dull look and his kind of big. Not as tall as me but tall for a Japanese person and he probably weighed more than me. Anyways as I’m riding he see someone get up fairly far away and he tries to get up to switch seats but someone else took the seat. That thought that was kind of odd. Not only that but his movement was very un-Japanese like in that he seemed jumpy. Japanese aren’t jumpy people. Anyways we start to get closer to my station and all of the sudden he hops up from his seat. I say ‘hop’ because he got up quickly but he didn’t go to the door to wait to get out like you’d think he was getting up for. No, he got up and moved next to the girl that was standing across from his seat. He tried to lean around her to look at her directly and tried to get her attention by starring at her. At this time I’m starring at him directly to let him know I see what he’s doing. He looks at me a few times and sees that I’m starring at him. None of the other Japanese are taking notice of this guy’s weird behavior or looking at him. By my standards he’s acting like a stocker/psyco. He doesn’t do anything perverted but just stares really close to this girl with this weird face. The girl obviously doesn’t know him and is trying to ignore him. She gets off at the next station which happens to be my station as well. The stocker guy follows her off the train as well. I follow behind because it’s my station anyway and I want to see if he follows her directly onto the next train. She gets on the local train which happened to be there at the same time as our express train was. The weird stocker guy doesn’t follow her directly into the same car but enters the train a few cars down. It was an odd thing to see.

I’m getting settled into school here. After this next week I should have everything settled out into a pattern. I’m getting used to life here. Things still pop out at me every day, and I want to write about them but I also don't want to comment on something I don't completely understand. I don’t know much about Japan yet as I’ve only been here for a few weeks. Some of the things I see I’ll comment more on when I have a better feel for what I’m experiencing and seeing. I plan to post more pictures in the future!

  1. Have you seen any large reptiles or insects yet?

Possibly destroying a downtown metropolitan area?

Don't worry if it's Gamera though, as he is friend to people.

  3. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

after you run, wipe away the small sweat bead that has appeared on the right side of your forehead.

(apologies to any Japanese friends of Gus)

(It's just that he's been gone a month or so and I have to tease him somehow)

  4. Ask your Japanese friends about the legend of Tsuchinoko (ツチノコ). It is some strange snake-like or lizard-like beast rumored to exist in Japan. Some people say it doesn't exist. Try to find out what people know.

  5. Haha Gus! Andrew just got done telling me about the singing toilets you have there--oh my gosh that's funny. The toliets should sing "Come Sail Away" that would be the best. Seriously though, sounds like you're having a blast and living it up as you should be :0) It is really interesting to learn about the Japanese through American eyes, and see all the large and small differences in culture. Great job with the blogs--keep it up! And more pictures please !!! I'm interested in the architecture and the wood and paper houses especially. You should go to visit the Shinto shrine Fushimi Inari in Kyoto (if you can). I have a friend that lived in Japan for several years and some of her most beautiful photos were taken there. If that's your cup of tea that is :0) Enjoy Gus !!!

Oh !! Leave the creepers alone and be careful!!
