Typhoon and a hot spring spa

Today there was typhoon in Japan. It wasn’t very strong where I was. My school was slow in canceling classes. At first they only canceled the first two periods but then canceled all the class after awhile. I spent the morning in Ikebukuro waiting for the trains to start moving again. I had some cake while I was waiting. Cake here is incredible expensive compared to American. When I get back to American I’m going to buy myself a huge cake just because it would be cheap. American cake costs maybe 1/3 as much as Japan cake. I really don’t know how they can charge that much for cake. Everything here is expensive. I guess people make a lot of money too. Money must trade hands really quickly. You make a lot and spend a lot.

Today I went to an Onsen which is a hot spring spa. It was a completely new experience. It was kind of embarrassing as everyone was naked. The men and women were separated. First I enjoyed a hot bath area, then a really hot sauna which I thought I was going to pass out from it was so hot. It burned my nose if I breathed in through my nose. Then I went into this area I didn’t expect. It was hot but not as hot as the sauna, and in this place you took salt (I think it was salt) and scrubbed yourself with it. It was really steaming in there. I couldn’t see most of the other people in the room because of all the steam. After that there was this other area which I think was a bath that had salt in it to make the water lighter so that you could float more easily? I’m not sure but it was white water. All of this heat actually noticeable made my voice deeper. At least I surprised myself when I said something and it came out deeper than normal. After that we had dinner and some beers at the spa.

Earlier today I went out and walked around hibarigaoka. I wanted to get some cake but sometimes my confidence in my speaking capabilities fail me and I chicken out. I know I shouldn’t but sometimes I avoid ordering because they sometimes ask me lots of questions but it’s always in super polite so I can’t understand super polite very well. Super polite is rarely spoken. There is kind of normal speech, polite speech and super polite. I suck at understanding super polite. Super polite verbs encompass several verbs so I have to guess which verb is the correct one.

Anyways I’m glad there wasn’t any class today and I could have a break. Tomorrow is Friday… Yay.
